| FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES Dr. Helminski is board certified in forensic psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Board certification is attained through a rigorous process that includes training in forensic psychology, peer review of the candidate’s work , and oral and written examination. Individuals who are board certified through ABPP are recognized as having attained the highest level of competence as forensic psychologists. There are only about 250 psychologists in the country that have attained ABPP forensic certification, and only thirteen practice in North Carolina. Dr. Helminski has worked as a forensic psychologist for over twenty years and has been qualified as an expert numerous times. He has also provided many seminars to attorneys, judges and mental health professionals on topics involving psychology and the law.
Dr. Helminski provides forensic psychological services in criminal, civil, juvenile and family court matters. His forensic practice includes the following specialty areas: - Child Abuse
For over twenty years, Dr. Helminski has provided consultation, case review, review of child interviews, expert witness testimony, and assessments of victims in cases involving allegations of sexual or physical abuse. In criminal cases he has been consulted by prosecution and defense attorneys. He has often testified as an expert in family court regarding the best interests of children. He has provided seminars to attorneys, judges, Guardians ad Litem and mental health professionals on legal and mental health aspects of child maltreatment. - Personal Injury
Dr. Helminski regularly provides consultation and assessment in personal injury cases involving children or adults. He has been retained by plaintiffs’ and defendants’ attorneys . He has evaluated plaintiffs in cases when there were concerns of psychological injury due to traumas such as sexual abuse, animal bites, employment discrimination, automobile accidents, and death of a child’s parent. Dr. Helminski has provided seminars to attorneys regarding the psychologist’s role in personal injury and employment discrimination cases. - Juvenile Delinquency
Retained by either defense or prosecution, Dr. Helminski assesses juveniles accused of crimes and provides consultation regarding juvenile disposition. He provides evaluations regarding competency, transfer to adult criminal court, dispositional and treatment needs, violence risk, and risk for sexual offense.
